Richard Rohr wrote: "it is often when the ego is most deconstructed that we can hear things anew and begin some honest reconstruction." He also wrote: "the second half of life can hold some new wine because by then there should be some strong wine skins, some tested ways of holding our lives together." Feeling gratitude for strong wine skins as deconstructing means looking at things with clarity. When wrapped in compassion however there is great comfort and peace in allowing oneself to step off the pedestal that ego can command we stand on.
The figure in this painting is holding a lotus, which symbolizes the flower seeking the surface of the water, while remembering it's roots in the mud. For me it represents carrying our humanness while remembering our true essence.
