This painting developed from a study of shadows in a forest. Generally, I'm an abstract painter and this was an attempt to simplify the shapes and colours in a forest rather than paint it as I saw it. I find that to paint more abstractly it helps to squint at the original photograph and just look for darks, lights and shapes. I hope you feel like you are entering into a sacred, quiet place in this painting.
