La Flamme is inspired from the old antique oil lanterns that I remember seeing at my grandfather’s farm in Alberta. It has the shape and the flame that I remember so well. The walnut wood was centered on the lathe so the eye on each side is distinct in colour and uniform in size and shape. As you turn it around, you can see distinct grain patterns matching in the lid.
The walnut wood was acquired in the Muskoka area. The finial is made of ash from a tree that was culled because it had the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle. I was able to salvage this small piece to turn the flame for my box. The colour contrast, shape and proportions create a pleasing artistic piece.
Size: 5.5"h x 3.25" diameter.
