The sea is as unpredictable as the weather. While sketching on the Bonavista Peninsula, I saw a dark line far out on the water near the horizon. In minutes, it went from a beautiful sunny day to a torrential, windy downpour. As the Newfoundlanders say "If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute." I wanted to capture that sense of expansive aloneness, the depth of the sea, and the constantly changing atmosphere.
