My home studio is surrounded by mature pines which act as an umbrella to the sun’s rays and filter the wind, to protect our home. They reach upward to the sun with wide arms, fringed with a brush of green needles. At every time of the day, light dances on the branches as they sway in the breeze.
I created Suncatcher 1 with India Ink, watercolour and soft pastel. India Ink is the perfect medium for me to work with when I want expressive contrasts. It is slightly unmanageable, however it gives an edgy feeling to my work. Watercolour paint is a great partner for it. Adding watercolour while the paper is still wet, allows it melt into the ink, giving a seamless quality. Once all is dry, soft pastel is applied on top of the ink or watercolour to give highlights.
India Ink, watercolour and soft pastel. Size: 15"h x 22"w x 1"d. Finished with 3" mat and a 1" black frame.
