One mid-autumn morning, I joined a small group of fellow painters at the Rotary Gardens Park in Bracebridge. The stone water feature, surrounded by a collection of various sized rocks, attracted me, but the water had been disconnected for the season. However, the fountain now covered in pine needles appealed to me.
My plan was to make a quick sketch in pencil and an equally quick underpainting that I would finish back in my studio. However, it was so cold I could barely hold a pencil. After completing a very basic sketch of the scene and taking several photos, I packed up and headed home. I then used the photos along with my sketch to create the final painting in my studio.
