I have been working online with a teacher in the UK, Louise Fletcher. One of her monthly lessons was on layering, suggesting you start with collage, paint over it, then scratch into it, etc. I began this piece as a layering piece, but as I was using up extra paint from other pieces over top of the collage, I began to enjoy the simplicity and drama of it. So, this piece did not end up being layers. It is only one layer of collage and one of paint, but the mark making and dramatic colours give it a lot of life. The pink bubblegum colours made me think of children and happy birthday parties.
