Herons are very skittish and it is usually very had to photograph them. I came across this heron while out on a paddle and fortunately, I saw him before he saw me. I stopped paddling and observed and took photos for about 20 minutes until he finally took off from the shore's edge and flew to this stump. He is highlighted by late evening lighting. He perched on this stump long enough for me to get some shots before he took off again.
