The design of Centered goes against many of the rules we follow as artists when planning out our paintings. I am usually one who loves to follow the rules of design but Centered is my rebellious child. I’ve reached a point with my art where I truly appreciate, and understand, why the ‘rules’ exist and work well. However, just like in life, rules are meant to be broken.
When I was viewing the tiny little Island that sits quietly in a wide section of the Ottawa River that is surrounded by miles of endless hill, its humble presence was commanding and dominated the view.
I’ll call it the ‘island affect’ and it’s true to life. Sometimes we let little things dominate our thoughts and we lose the over-all beauty of it within the larger picture. Those ’small but dominant things’ can trip us up or lead us to discover the most interesting and precious lessons in life.
